This approach ensures that brokers are supported with tools that enhance efficiency, simplify complex processes, and ultimately enable them to deliver a better service to their clients.

To deliver an effective digital product, we began by carrying out user research to gather comprehensive insights into user needs and behaviours. We then developed detailed user personas based on this research to represent key segments of the target audience, ensuring design decisions remain user-focused. We created interactive prototypes to visualise concepts and facilitate early feedback. We then conducted usability testing with real users to identify pain points and refine the interface for intuitive navigation. Finally, once the product was built, the team integrated AI technologies thoughtfully to enhance personalisation, streamline interactions, and improve overall user experience without compromising accessibility or transparency.

As a Product Designer, working with a Product Manager, Creative Director, Product team and other cross-functional teams, I was involved in every stage of the process. We started with initial research and user interviews to gain a deep understanding of user needs and pain points which informed the development of wireframes and prototypes, which were iteratively refined through usability testing. Throughout the design cycle, I collaborated closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with technical constraints and business goals. Finally, I was involved in user feedback sessions post-launch to gather insights for continuous improvement, ensuring the product remained user-centred and effective.
Establishing the Brand:
Transforming complexity into clarity.
We initially built the MPowered brand as an extension of the MQube brand, with MPowered serving as the name of the secondary company encompassing the MPowered Mortgages platform. The design of the MPowered and MPowered Mortgages brands was closely based on the original MQube identity to ensure visual cohesion and brand recognition.
While MQube was established using a distinct red colour, MPowered and MPowered Mortgages adopted different shades of blue, providing a clear differentiation while maintaining a professional and trustworthy appearance. Additionally, green was incorporated as a symbol of success and progress, whereas red was reserved to indicate errors, creating an intuitive and consistent colour code across the platform.
The ‘broker first’ approach.
Brokers were central to what we built at MPowered Mortgages, and so we wanted to create a platform designed and built with them in mind. By collaborating closely with brokers and identifying their pain points and concerns, we harnessed the capabilities of our technology to develop a platform that genuinely addresses their needs.
In a highly competitive market, it was essential to deliver an intuitive experience, which led us to focus intently on our user experience (UX) strategy. This approach ensures that brokers can navigate the platform effortlessly, enhancing efficiency and ultimately providing better service to their clients.


Creating a usable, viable and feasible product.
By following the steps outlined above, we maximised efficiency and ensured that our product and any subsequent updates deliver genuine value to the brokers using it. Engaging closely with users throughout the design and development process allowed us to gain deep insights into their needs and goals. This ongoing communication equipped us to make informed choices about features and functionality, striking a careful balance between user desirability, technological feasibility, and economic viability. Ultimately, a successful product emerges at the intersection of these three factors: it meets real user needs, can be built with the available or emerging technology, and sustains profitability.
Cross-functional teams.
All of the those working at MPowered Mortgages were working towards a shared goal, making it straightforward to collaborate cross-functionally to launch the product. We engaged with software engineers, data scientists, industry experts, product managers, underwriters, and many others, each contributing their unique expertise to ensure a seamless and successful release. This unified effort fostered a cohesive environment where challenges were addressed efficiently and innovation thrived.
